jessica Care moore Receives Academy of American Poets Fellowship Prize

Congratulations to jessica Care moore, Detroit Poet Laureate, for being selected as a 2025 Poet Laureate Fellow by the Academy of American Poets! This fellowship awards $50,000 to 23 poet laureates currently serving across the country and provides over $95,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations that have been collaborating with the fellows on their work. Since her appointment last year as Detroit’s first poet laureate in 20 years, jessica has led a citywide arts and literacy initiative to uplift poetry and increase literacy rates in schools and the community through poetry-centered events, and has created opportunities for the diverse voices that comprise Detroit’s population to shine through large-scale murals in collaboration with Detroit student artists.
