Kirsten Imani Kasai is the author of three novels: The House of Erzulie (Feb. 2018, Shade Mountain Press), Ice Song (2009, Random House) and its sequel Tattoo (2011, Random House), and the audio production Flesh Hell. Her short stories, poetry, essays, and articles have appeared in numerous print and online publications in the USA, Australia, Canada, and Romania. Recent publications include: “Eat, Drink and Be Wary: Autosarcophagy and Autoerotism in Body Horror Cinema,” The Body Horror Book (Oscillate Wildly Press, 2017), and “Writing a Better Ending: How Feminist Utopian Literature Subverts Patriarchy” in an upcoming issue of the American Journal of Economics and Sociology. 

An award-winning writer and editor with a background in print and online publication management, she’s served the literary community as a book and writing coach, speaker/presenter, and as an editor and critique group leader connecting with learners through individual coaching, workshops, classes, and panel discussions. An avid proponent of the need to support literary citizenship and advocacy in the writing community, she’s dedicated to guiding writers toward the fullest expression of their voice and work. Kirsten has an MFA in Creative Writing and certification in the teaching of creative writing, both from Antioch University Los Angeles. Currently, she’s writing new fiction and nonfiction and teaching Advanced Literature at Southern New Hampshire University. She lives with her family in California, where she quietly advocates for introvert rights from the privacy of her home.
