B. A. Van Sise is a prize-winning photographer whose work has appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, New York magazine, PBS Newshour, Buzzfeed, and over 250 other media outlets. He is a Nikon/AFAR travel photography ambassador and former staffer at Newsday and the Village Voice. His photographs are in the collection of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, and he has mounted exhibitions at Center for Creative Photography, the Peabody Essex Museum, the Museum of Jewish Heritage, the Los Angeles Center of Photography, the Museum of Photographic Arts and the Whitney Museum of American Art. His first book, Children of Grass, a photographic study of America’s most notable contemporary poets, won an Independent Publisher Book Awards Gold Medal, was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, and is currently in its third edition. Van Sise has been named a New York State Council on the Arts Fellow for Photography, and was a finalist for the Rattle Poetry Prize, the Travel Media Awards for Feature Writing, and the Meitar Award for Excellence in Photography. He won the Prix de La Photographie Paris award for portraiture and was a gold medalist at the Independent Book Publishers Awards. His new project Invited to Life, a series of portraits and short stories documenting the lives of Holocaust survivors in the United States, will be featured at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, the Center for Jewish History, and the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center in 2023.
